WhyNot Youth Press Project

WhyNot is not just your average platform - we're amplifiers of voices, stories, and issues that matter to young people worldwide. And guess what? We're ready to crank up the volume even louder!

Enter the WhyNot Youth Press Project. Our latest initiative is revolutionizing the world of media and storytelling. We're calling upon young, aspiring journalists aged 18-30 to join us in crafting compelling feature stories. In partnership with the Y’s Youth Parliament programs across Australia, these stories will shine a spotlight on the bills, topics, solutions, and emerging young leaders of today.

Are you a budding journalist?

This opportunity is tailor-made for you! We're seeking journalism students (aged 18-30) to become WhyNot Journalists, crafting constructive, solutions-focused narratives through meticulous reporting and captivating storytelling.

Did you know that 63% of young people feel disconnected from traditional news media? Yet, they crave high-quality, trustworthy content in today's media landscape. Our project offers a unique chance for young individuals to share their own stories and those of their peers, driving positive social change in the process.

  • The state Youth Parliament programs' sitting week for the debate sessions they choose to cover (dates vary between state programs).
  • A pre-sitting week session for project introduction and briefing.
  • An additional session before sitting week to learn about presented bills, commence research, and potentially meet with Youth Members of Parliament (YMPs).
  • Extra sessions provided by WhyNot for upskilling and networking opportunities.

WhyNot Journalists are expected to produce a minimum of one feature article, with a maximum length of 800 words, as a result of their participation.
