Inconsequential as a grain of sand,

they push and prod me into the land,

quick, before she sees the light,

quick, so sooner she’ll lose her fight.

From up above, I stop to breathe,

and start to sink my feet beneath.

Off they wander in all but jest,

so soon they do not hear my unrest.

Here, down where it’s dark and cold,

that’s only because no one knows.

Bury me,

and I shall set my roots into the ground.

Drown me,

and this strength will come unbound.

For years to come, they do not see me grow,

for I dig deeper, deeper into the unknown.

That’s because I will not be

just a pretty flower, a death decree.

When the clouds of today have come and gone,

someday, at the break of dawn,

in my place, you will see

a strong and magnificent tree.

Bury me and I will spread my wings

to shelter all that life might bring,

to sing with the wind instead of bend at its whim.
