Raise Our Voice in Parliament Together: For Good

Imagine the impact when politicians across the nation commit to echoing the concerns and aspirations of our younger generations, speaking their words on the issues that matter most to them.

Let us introduce you to the Raise Our Voice in Parliament initiative.

It’s where the future of Australia meets the present in a collaboration fuelled by passion and purpose, allowing young Australians to be the architects of change. Through collaboration and advocacy, the initiative strives to pave the way for a brighter, more inclusive Australia.

In classic WhyNot style, we love any opportunity to amplify voices and have created a space on our platform for a 5-part series to ensure the voices of the 2023 Raise Our Voice in Parliament campaign are heard.

Help make their voices loud and become a catalyst for progress and transformation.

Words by Ewan

Today, I stand before you to discuss a matter of paramount importance – the future of our great nation, Australia. As young leaders, it is our responsibility to envision and implement changes that will pave the way for a brighter and more sustainable future for the generations that will follow in our footsteps.

Cathy Freeman, the Olympic champion, and the Matilda’s, our national women’s soccer team, symbolise the spirit of hope, determination, and unity that defines our nation. Their achievements inspire us to strive for excellence and work together towards a better future.

First and foremost, to make Australia a better place for future generations, we must prioritise environmental sustainability. Climate change is not a distant threat; it is a reality that our generation faces head-on. To address this challenge, we must commit to ambitious carbon neutrality targets, invest heavily in renewable energy sources, and support sustainable agricultural practices. Our natural wonders, such as the Great Barrier Reef and unique ecosystems, depend on our actions today.

Inclusivity and equality are fundamental pillars of a better Australia for future generations. We must ensure that all Australians, regardless of their background, have access to quality education, healthcare, and job opportunities. Let us foster an environment where diversity is celebrated, where discrimination is vehemently opposed, and where every young person’s potential is nurtured, regardless of their ethnicity, gender, or socioeconomic status.

In the age of information and technology, digital literacy is a necessity, not a luxury. We must invest in education and infrastructure to bridge the digital divide, ensuring that every young Australian has access to high-quality internet and the skills needed to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly.

Our healthcare system should evolve to meet the changing needs of our society. Mental health support should be accessible to all, and preventive care should be prioritised. Let us promote healthy lifestyles and mental well-being, ensuring that future generations grow up in a nation that cares deeply about their health.

The economic landscape is evolving rapidly, and we must prepare our youth for the jobs of the future. Investing in STEM education and vocational training will equip our young people with the skills needed to thrive in the digital age. Let us encourage innovation, entrepreneurship, and the development of industries that are sustainable and globally competitive.

Australia’s Indigenous peoples are the custodians of the world’s oldest living cultures. We must strengthen our commitment to reconciliation, truth-telling, and ensuring Indigenous voices are heard and respected in all decisions that affect their communities. This is not just a moral imperative; it is essential for the unity and prosperity of our nation.

In conclusion, the future of Australia depends on the decisions we make today. Let us be bold in our vision, courageous in our actions, and unwavering in our commitment to leaving a legacy of sustainability, inclusivity, and prosperity for the generations that will inherit this great land. Together, as the youth of Australia, we can forge a future that is better, brighter, and more promising than ever before.
